The short version
- You can read this website without creating an account or giving us your name.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. It uses cookies.
- We show ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads, including ads based on your interests. You can turn personalized ads off at any time.
This policy explains what information is collected when you visit shutdownstracker.com (the "site"), who collects it, and the choices you have. "We" and "us" mean ShutdownsTracker.
Information we collect
Information you give us. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply to you and keep a record of the conversation.
Information collected automatically. Like almost every website, our hosting provider receives basic technical information when your browser loads a page: your IP address, browser type, device type, the page requested, the referring page and the time of the request. This is used to deliver the site, keep it secure and stop abuse.
We do not ask for, and do not want, sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, bank details or health information. Please do not send it to us.
Visitor statistics and Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics, a service from Google, to understand how many people visit the site and which pages they read, so we can improve it. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, how long you stay, the website that sent you, your approximate location (city or region), and your device and browser type. We do not send your name, email address or other information that directly identifies you to Google Analytics, and we see only combined statistics, not individual visitors.
Google processes this information under its own privacy policy; see also how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can stop Google Analytics from collecting data about your visits with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser.
Advertising and Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Ads help pay for running this free website. When an ad is shown, the following applies:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.
- If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will not be based on your interests.
To learn how Google uses information from sites that show its ads, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Google's own privacy policy applies to the information Google collects.
We do not control which ads appear, and an ad does not mean we recommend the product or service. Our editorial content is written independently of our advertisers.
Visitors in Europe and the UK
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for your consent before cookies are used for personalized ads. You can change your choice at any time using the privacy settings link shown with the consent message. Where required, ads shown without consent are limited, non-personalized ads.
Your privacy rights in the United States
Residents of some U.S. states, such as California, have rights to know what personal information is collected about them, to ask for it to be deleted, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising cookies set by Google may count as "sharing" under some state laws; you can opt out of them using the links above or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser. To make a request, email us at contact@shutdownstracker.com.
Service providers and external links
Our site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical request data to deliver and protect the site. We share information with other parties only when needed to run the site, when required by law, or to protect our rights and the safety of others.
Our pages link to other websites, such as government agencies and news outlets. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies when you visit them.
Children's privacy
This site is written for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention and security
We keep emails only as long as needed to answer them and keep a basic record. The site is served only over a secure (HTTPS) connection. No method of sending or storing data online is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we handle.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example if we add new features or partners. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed.
